Why Sustainable Farming?

Why do we use Sustainable Farming? Why our emphasis on STEM and education?

We've spent our entire careers working to protect the environment. We've cleaned up many messes left behind by earlier generations. In careers spanning over 40 years, we saw "the good, the bad, and the ugly!"

Mother Nature brought the forests back to Candy Mountain after years of Agriculture, Sand/Gravel Mining, and Commercial Logging. Sustainable Maple Farming Methods aren't the "easiest" to implement, but, when implemented properly, they can produce great tasting results. Sustainable Farming Methods generally result in products with less environmental impact and a smaller carbon footprint than many traditionally manufactured products. By coupling sustainable sugarbush management methods, and appropriate modern technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption, we are able to produce high-quality maple syrup from our trees, in a bio-diverse, natural, forest ecosystem for many years to come.

We believe that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) are key skills that today's children need to succeed. It's not a coincidence that STEM figures prominently in Sustainable Maple Farming Practice. We hope to make a visit to Candy Mountain Maple Farm, a tasty, fun, enjoyable and educational experience for everyone!
